RESEARCH
Our research begins with a shared materials foundation: porous materials and functional nanomaterials. We investigate how pore structure, surface chemistry, morphology, and interfaces govern material function. Through functionalization, film formation, and multiscale assembly, we translate these materials into membranes, adsorbents, catalysts, photothermal evaporators, and battery separators. We also develop high-purity colloidal materials for semiconductor processing.
Design zeolites, metal–organic frameworks, functional metal oxides, carbon materials, and polymer–nanomaterial composites.
Tailor pores, surfaces, and interfaces; form films, coatings, and nanofibrous structures; and control particle dispersion where colloidal processing is required.
Connect material structure with selective transport, adsorption, catalytic activity, heat and water transport, and mechanical stability.
Evaluate materials in separation processes, environmental technologies, and electronic or electrochemical components, with attention to operating conditions and long-term performance.

We develop membranes and adsorbents that control molecular and ionic transport through pore and interface design. Our goal is to achieve selective separations while maintaining stability under demanding chemical and operating conditions.
Our work covers gas purification, solvent dehydration, and selective metal recovery from spent catalysts and batteries. Current projects also address hydrogen-isotope separation for fusion applications, membrane materials for waste-PET separation and recycling, and membrane-based oxygen-production devices.

TiO₂ · Photocatalysis · Advanced oxidation · Photothermal evaporation
We develop functional materials that use light and interfacial reactions to address water and environmental challenges. Our research combines the control of surface reactivity with the design of films and porous structures.
One direction focuses on TiO₂-based materials for photocatalysis and advanced oxidation. Another develops photothermal films and evaporation platforms that couple light absorption, localized heating, water supply, and salt management. We study how material chemistry and architecture influence activity, transport, and operational stability.

We engineer porous films, nanofibrous structures, and functional particles for electronic and electrochemical applications. Our focus is on connecting material composition and microstructure with transport, thermal stability, and mechanical reliability.
For lithium-ion batteries, we investigate separator architectures that support ion transport while maintaining electrical insulation and structural integrity under heat and deformation. We also develop ultra-high-purity silica slurries for semiconductor processing, with an emphasis on particle characteristics, impurity control, and dispersion stability.
